The Mediterranean diet is not as much as a diet as it is a way of life.
Since ever people in Greece and other countries in the Mediterranean region have been eating this way.
It is a healthful diet in many ways, such as lowering cholesterol and risk of heart disease. Also, from the Mediterranean diet have been shown to help your body manage blood sugar levels.
A Mediterranean-style dietary pattern :
- emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans and legumes
- includes low-fat or fat-free dairy products, fish, poultry, non-tropical vegetable oils and nuts
- limits added sugars, sugary beverages, highly processed foods, refined carbohydrates, saturated fats, and processed meats
